I am a veteran.
I salute all others.
I appreciate their (mostly far greater) sacrifice.
But war itself is sometimes, something else.
I've seen some poems here on AR today.
Here is one of mine:
War Weary
War is tiring—
Wears ya out.
Makes you cross—
Prone to pout.
Demands attention.
Steals yer fun.
Makes you mad at
Everyone.
Steals your boys.
Makes ‘em men—
If they make it
Home again.
War clutters up
The front page.
Ruins your day
At any age.
We’re fighting Them
Way over there.
So we might not
Fight Them here.
The world now has very
Little enthusiasm
For our love of such a
Distant war chasm—
Their sympathy being
Marred by history
Of hosting our bloody
Fields of victory.
Wars up spending,
Keep things booming—
Without taxes leave
Deficits looming.
Wars mean taxes
Paid by somebody—
You or your grandkids—
Not by nobody.
Wars are no fun for
People who fight them
And even worse for
People who die them.
Freedom is worth
All of war’s high toil.
Can that be said of
Pricey foreign oil?
